I write about the arts, books, music and visual culture for The New York Times, The Guardian, The Financial TimesThe New Yorker, The New York Review of BooksThe TLS, BBC Culture and Prospect magazine, among others. 

My most recent book is the award-winning travelogue Worlds Elsewhere: Journeys Around Shakespeare's Globe – a journey into Shakespeare’s worldwide impact. It’s been praised by outlets including The New York Times Book Review, The Wall Street Journal, The Observer, and The Times of India.

I also broadcast regularly, writing and presenting radio programmes for the BBC, and appear as a specialist contributor in TV documentaries. I’m also a consultant for Novel, a leading podcast company.

I've been an honorary fellow at Birkbeck, University of London and taught at institutions including Warwick and SOAS, as well as collaborating on international education projects with the British Council.
